Ibrahim Quraishi, Performance und Visual Artist, wohnhaft in Amsterdam und New York, Jahrgang 1973, lebte zwei Wochen in Pfaffenhofen und veranstaltete mit jungen Menschen einen Workshop. Dessen Ziel war es die Spuren der physischen und räumlichen Bahngleise der persönlichen Geschichte nachzugehen.
Die Beziehung zwischen Natur und Technik, als auch die Beziehung der TeilnehmerInnen zu deren innerem Gefühl der Zugehörigkeit, wurden in diesem 10-tägigen Workshop thematisiert und schlussendlich in einer Performance der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Mit dabei war Vladimir Petkovic (Sound und Visual Designer), der sich auch schon für Quraishis Installation „Islamic Violins“ in der Kunsthalle Wien 2008, für das jener den Ö1 Prix Jardin d‘Europe Preis erhielt, für den Klang verantwortliche zeichnete.
Ibrahim Quraishi is one of the leading artists who belongs to a new generation of makers challenging our understanding of visual performativity and its relationship to the broader cultural perspective. As one of the five recipients of the first Ö1 Prix Jardin d’Europe Prize in 2008 for his Installation Islamic Violins at Kunsthalle, Wien.
Defined by a nomadic existence, Quraishi divides his time in multiple cities while living in Amsterdam and escaping the conventional rules of engagement in researching, teaching and sometimes creating works for spaces and institutions like MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art), National Museum of Singapore, Muffathalle (Munich), Japan Foundation Tokyo, Asia Society (New York), ImPulsTanz (Vienna), Holland Festival (Amsterdam), Le Batofar (Paris), BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival New York), Springdance (Utrecht), iDANS Istanbul, Biennale Bonn 08 and among others. Ibrahim Quraishi`s most recent essays have been for the French newspaper Libèration and for Paul D. Millers aka DJ Spooky`s new book Sound Unbound (MIT Press 2008).
